Caleb's Myth-Folklore Assignments

      This semester will likely be the one in which time management is the most necessary. It's only been a week and I already feel a bit overwhelmed.     I am working two jobs on campus. I am taking a video production course in which I have to write shoot and edit a short video every few weeks. I am in a screenwriting course where I have to read and/or write a script almost each week. I am in this course which looks to require hefty amounts of reading and writing each week. I am enrolled in two other online courses. I am one of two artistic directors for the Oklahoma University Improv (OUI) troupe. Finally, I really want to find time to work on my own feature length screenplay throughout the semester. Just typing it made my head spin. Maybe that isn't really all that bad, but I am historically very bad with time management and procrastination. I am terrified to let even a single second of my time slip through the cracks this semester.     My time...

      This blog post will be very short to avoid being redundant of my previous post about the class in general. This is a very different experience for me in terms of both a traditional class and an online class. I'm not very fond of the blogging aspect, but I hope I will learn to like it. I am moderately interested to see what other tools and websites we will use in this class. Clearly, it is a class that takes full advantage of being online. I'm pretty familiar with most web tools and the functions of web browsers and whatnot. I don't think there is anything in particular that I am interested in working on in that field. Blog from Scrabble letters (Image by Wokandapix on Pixabay )        This is certainly not like any other class I have ever taken. I'm not yet sure how I feel about that yet. I am excited to begin reading and engaging with the stories this class follows. If I wasn't, I wouldn't have taken this class. I am intrigued by the idea of rewriting some of these tales and creating new stories from scratch. I enjoy writing stories and I am always grateful for a chance to sharpen those skills. However, I'm not yet sure how I feel about the blogging aspect of the class.     This blogging thing is really foreign to me and feels a bit unnecessary. It feels like having to solve a word scramble in order to write my assignment. I'd much prefer to just receive and turn in my assignments through canvas. I'm not super fond of having to publish my classwork to the rest of the class and having them interact with it. Nor am I super fond of having to interact with my classmates' w...

       Some easy to understand brain activity ( OpenClipart ) I have never directly heard of Carol Dweck or the "growth mindset", but the general idea is one I have heard often in the past. It is an idea that I have struggled to implement myself. I can completely understand that the mindset I was taught growing up was not a good one. I can understand that having a mindset that appreciates challenges and potential growth is much more beneficial and healthy. However, it is much, much harder to put into practice. When you've been conditioned your whole life that failure is bad, facing failure with a positive attitude is nearly impossible. Your emotions take over because you're scared of the consequences or angry at the results, and logical, healthy practices are the last thing on your mind. I fully support Dweck's suggestion that education be reformed to focus more on failure than success. If you are taught young enough that failure is okay, you won't struggle to...

I am a third year Creative Media Production major in the Gaylord College of Journalism and Mass Communication.  I am also working towards a minor in General Business in the Price College of Business. I am pursuing a focus in screenwriting in my major while still getting the basics of actual single camera productions.      Even though I am pursuing a focus in screenwriting, one of the coolest parts of being a CMP major at Gaylord is working on the set of short film productions. There is nothing that quite matches the atmosphere and feeling of being on even a tiny set and helping to contribute to the final product. My favorite class year was entirely this experience. "Don't judge a book by its cover!" Bookshelf full of books ( source )      Well, how else should I find stories I might like? I sup that's what a good title is for. These are three storybooks from the provided list that caught my interest from their titles and held it with the introduction.       Tarzan and Jane's School for Feral Children smacked me in the face as I scrolled through the list of storybooks. I could see the story fold out in front of me from the title alone and I was not disappointed by the rest of what I saw. Before reading a word, I appreciated the home page for this project. The design looked nice with the full photo as a background and the sections were easy to navigate to because they were right in the center of the page. The introduction provided a crystal clear depiction of what the stories might be about and introduced characters fairly well.   The Dallas Museum of Art . This museum is one of my favorite places on Earth. It's a giant collection of great art that anyone can come and enjoy for free. What's not to love?  Dallas Museum of Art (2007) Wikimedia Commons Beyond the actual contents of the museum, this museum was the birthplace of many High School memories. I went to school really close by. When we had free time or an off day, my friends and I would often come here to hang out and look at new exhibits. I always try to visit the DMA when I'm home.
